Kaleid Zine

Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States

Bio

We are Frankie Miller and Sophia Balabanova-Gebreab, two queer zinesters from Minneapolis, Minnesota! We have been making Kaleid Zine since we met in high school in 2019, and we’ve continued publishing it through college. Our zine aims to showcase work by other young artists. We publish visual art, sculpture, performance art, music, fashion, and writing pieces that our readers have submitted. By seeking submissions from friends, classmates, acquaintances, and artists we admire, we have created a space for many artists who have not been published before. In every issue, we also “feature" a few local artists, conducting a photo shoot with them and interviewing them about their artistic process, inspirations, and the meaning behind their work. These wonderful submissions and interviews mingle with our personal commentary, collages, handwriting, and art pieces. Our zine aims to inspire readers to begin their artistic practice and to frame art as an approachable, liberating medium. We’ve learned so much while making this zine and can’t wait to share it with you.
